Freakish Fiction #5
A downloadable comic
Freakish Fiction #5 is our fifth extraordinary comic by Bezek. He's a very talented maker of comics, and we're fortunate that he's been willing to make a series of comics for our humble website.
Freakish Fiction #5 is filled with page after page of gorgeous art (this issue has been expanded to 60 stunning pages), and is professionally lettered by Masieri. This is comics-making of the highest caliber!
The obvious inspiration for Freakish Fiction #5 is EC comics. If you don't know these comics from the 1950s, you should! They're some of the greatest, most well-regarded comics that have ever been created. EC did horror, suspense, sci-fi, war, and humor comics. Each issue contained three short stories that were introduced by hosts such as the Crypt Keeper or the Vault Keeper.
Bezek has replicated this format for the Freakish Fiction series. We've even got our own macabre host... the Eternal Bride! In each issue there are three short comics. Three different settings. Three kinds of transformations. And, of course, three wildly entertaining stories that feature a witch, a pair of scientific geniuses, and a pixie as the means of transformation.
I should add that A New Outlook is the featured story of this issue, in that it runs a whopping 36 pages. Not that Bezek doesn't know how to tell a tale in 8 or 9 pages; merely that he can work more twists into a story of this length, as well as serve up more stunning art.
Some other things I want to remind you about this series. The cover (you can see a small version of it as a sample image), is in color, but as with earlier issues in the Freakish Fiction series, the rest of the comic is in glorious black and white (as you can see from the sample panels on the right rail). And while the interior of the comic is in black and white, you'll notice that the art on this page doesn't quite have a white background. That's because the pages of Freakish Fiction are appropriately aged. They have that yellow-ish aged-paper tint to them, as if they really were part of a comic that was printed in the 1950s.
Let's break down the three stories, shall we?
HOT FOOT IT (8 pages) is the tale of a petty thief who has always outrun the cops... until he's suddenly wearing a pair of heels!
SIBLING RIVALRY (9 pages) tells the story of young geniuses Cecil and Dudley Davis, brothers who frequently argue over which one is the smarter twin, and each one is determined to prove it!
A NEW OUTLOOK (36 pages) is the main event of this edition of Freakish Fiction. Mr. Howard runs a bustling office where the women are valued more for their looks than their hard work, or at least that was the case until a mischievous pixie turns things on their head!
I will add that each issue of Freakish Fiction serves up some imaginative transformations... and in this issue the transformation in A NEW OUTLOOK is both fresh and dazzling. Bezek's layouts and fine art on each page bring this unique predicament to life!
As with previous issues in the series, Bezek uses a light touch, and there's a good deal of humor to the proceedings. The twist endings are designed to make you chortle as much as shock.
There is some nudity in this comic, but the naughty bits are mostly covered. It would have been a very naughty comic had it actually been published in the 1950s, but not so much in the 2020s.
Bezek is a special artist whose work can only be found here on TGComics.com, and the comics he makes are special. The art is extraordinary and the stories are twisted and fun. I hope you'll consider making a purchase of Freakish Fiction #5 if you're able to. I sincerely believe that Bezek is an artist well worth supporting!
